Due to the co-curricular nature of marching band, any absence whether excused or not can have an impact upon the student’s band grade. Any excused absence must be made up through a written assignment and submitted before the absence. Any assignments submitted after the absence will not be accepted.
There will be no make-up opportunities for unexcused absences.
Some school created conflicts may be absolved and therefore not require a written makeup. See Mr. Wis with any specific questions.
Athletes: Most of the time your conflicts can be worked out successfully. The important thing is to communicate early (not the last minute). A very general rule of thumb is that performances and games take precedence over rehearsals and practices. However please do not make these decisions on your own. Always be in communication with your teachers and coaches.Contact us with questions.
In addition:
Students who become ill and cannot attend a performance or rehearsal: You must supply a written note from your parents upon returning to school. If your absence is excused you will have two days to turn in your written assignment. Please understand that when you are in school, but then not at marching band, and then in school again the next morning, it is unlikely we will excuse your absence. Remember, marching band is part of your class. You are expected to be at marching band if you are in school.
For students receiving the P.E. Exemption: One unexcused absence from any rehearsal or performance can result in the revocation of the Exemption.
For students who will be on a family vacation during band camp: There is no guarantee that we will have a performance spot for you upon your return. Furthermore, you will lose your P.E. Exemption.
NOTE: Students who must arrive late to a rehearsal or performance due to a school-related activity must plan and notify us in advance.
