The Vocal Jazz Workshop at St. Charles North High School is an auditioned course for 12 voices (six females and six males). The focus is to develop jazz style via:
+ performing a wide variety of repertoire both a-cappella and with rhythm section
+ primarily one-on-a-part assignments
+ recording regularly throughout the year
Recording and microphone technique are two important aspects of the curriculum. Students are “on-mic” weekly and record regularly, both for rehearsal evaluation and our ongoing recording projects.
Update: SCN welcomes Mike Molloy to the faculty. Mr. Molloy comes to us from Roosevelt University, and previous to that taught at Southwest Community College and in the public school system in Canada. He has expertise in both instrumental and choral music and will be responsible for the vocal jazz program.
