Hello to all St. Charles North music families, and welcome to the third issue of Polar Notes for the 2014-2015 school year! Wow, what an exciting Fall! So much has happened and is happening.

Kudos to the Marching Band and to all the soloists who sang the Star Spangled Banner at home football games this fall! You looked and sounded wonderful. It looks like the football season is going to be a bit longer this year. Congratulations, and Go Northstars!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped out with uniforms and water for home football games! Your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated! Thank you very much to Cathy Schwanebeck and Kim Devine for organizing the volunteers for this activity!

Thank you also to all the parents who helped serve pizza and water to the marching band at the North vs. East football game! Special thanks to Kim Devine and Cathy Schwanebeck for the coordination of the event, and Molly Bolz and Ray Washington for getting the water. We all really appreciate it!

Congratulations to all of the students who auditioned for ILMEA on October 7, and congratulations to the students who made it to District!

I’d like to extend a warm welcome to the students and faculty from Albert Einstein Gymnasium (High School) from Boeblingen, Germany! They are visiting St. Charles North and the Chicagoland area from October 19 through October 29! The AEG Big Band is in town as part of an exchange with Jazz Workshop which started with Jazz Showcase visiting AEG last spring. The Big Band will be visiting the high school, and performing at several locations (including the Jazz Showcase in Chicago and Mullen’s Restaurant and Jazz Club in Lisle). They will put on a joint concert with Jazz Workshop on October 28 in the Auditorium at North. Come on out!

The next Friends of Music board meeting will be Tuesday night, November 4 at 7 PM in room 140 at the high school.

As you have heard (or should have heard), the Cheesecake and Coffee sale is happening this week, October 17 – 27. The coffee is new this year, including North Star Blend! Your student should have brought home the forms, online sales will be posted this week on scnmusic.com. This is one of three fundraisers supporting the Music Department at SCN. Thank you for your support!

Coming up on November 11 at 6:30 PM is the Veteran’s Day Concert! This will be a tremendous event celebrating Veterans and their contributions to the nation and to us. We are still in need of volunteers for that event, so if you are interested in helping out, please contact me.

In addition to the Veterans Celebration Concert, there are a number of other November concerts. The full Music Department calendar is online at http://scnmusic.com/ensemble-calendars/. There is the Madrigal Dinner coming up on December 11, 12, and 13! Please see http://scnmusic.com/madrigal-dinner/ for more information. After that is the Constellation Concert on December 18! More information on Constellation Concert may be found at http://scnmusic.com/constellation-concert/.

Just a reminder, the board and I are very interested in receiving your feedback on how things are going, what is working and more importantly what isn’t. Feel free to contact any of us with your comments, questions, and suggestions. Our email addresses are at http://scnmusic.com/fom-board/.

Thanks!
